First Issue 2015: 1982 Volkswagen Caddy

The Vokswagen Caddy is the newest casting for the Hot Wheels 2015 line-up.  The body is painted orange and the interior and pickup bed are black.  Thankfully Mattel didn't use the chrome plated interior on this model.  The 5 spoke wheels are always my favourite also.

The level of detail is excellent on the front and rear of the vehicle.  The body panel lines are just a tad too dark but they serve to enhance the vehicle nicely.

From above you can see the open sunroof and there's even a skateboard molded into the rear bed.

The Caddy came into fruition when Volkswagen was experimenting with Golf derivatives, an estate and a pickup.  Volkswagen of America was interested in the pickup, when Volkswagen released the VW Rabbit Pickup, first produced at the Volkswagen Westmoreland Assembly Plant in Pennsylvania from 1979 to 1982.

It was known in North America as the VW Rabbit Pickup with trim levels such as LX and Sportruck. The Caddy actually wasn't called Caddy until 1982 when it was released in Europe.  The VW Rabbit Pickup competed with other coupe utilities such as the Ford Courier and Subaru BRAT of the time.

Overall, a very nice casting. I'm sure it will get a lot of re-use.
